Hong Kong Vase Quinella Good News For Kia Ora Monday, 22nd December 2008
Only a short head separated Doctor Dino and Purple Moon at the finish of the G1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase, 2400m, on Hong Kong International Day at Sha Tin on 14 December.
Whichever way the judge’s decision went, however, would have been good news for Kia Ora Stud as it holds the families of both protagonists.
Kia Ora Stud owns the four-year-old French-bred filly
Isaure (Daliapour-Logica, by Priolo), a half-sister to the remarkable Doctor Dino.
It was Doctor Dino’s second win in the G1 HK$14 million Vase, adding to his G1 score in the Man o’War Stakes at
Belmont
Park in
New York.
Throughout a career of 29 starts, Doctor Dino has won nine races (six black-type) and been stakes-placed 11 times including six times in G1 events.
Doctor Dino has earned prizemoney in six different currencies while strutting the world stage in recent seasons.
Isaure
is due to arrive at Kia Ora Stud early in 2009, in foal to southern hemisphere time to the outstanding young sire Oasis Dream.
Vanishing Prairie, the dam of Purple Moon (Ire), is a half-sister to Kia Ora Stud’s
Venetian Lady (USA), a two-year-old winner in
France and now getting herself established as a broodmare in
Scone.
She has produced foals by Red Ransom (USA), Redoute’s Choice and Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire).
Coincidentally, another member of this family, Vallee Enchantee, won the G1 Hong Kong Vase in 2003.
