Kia Ora-Bred Stalwarts Notch Up A Double

Kia Ora Stud sale graduates Ulysses and Rock Me Baby continued their impressive form with successes at Flemington and Rosehill respectively on Saturday 13 December.

Ulysses (7g Fasliyev ( USA)-Striking Destiny (USA) by El Prado) has proven a remarkably durable galloper and has taken on a new lease of life since entering the Caulfield stable of Luke Oliver earlier this year.

Saturday’s win was his eighth from 55 career starts and with 15 minor placings the stakeswinning gelding’s earnings now stand at $616,640, easily the highest of any of the Fasliyev offspring bred in Australia.   Since the end of the Melbourne spring carnival Ulysses has really come into his own, winning three of his last four starts and finishing second in the other, at distances from 1600m to 2000m.

Highly-promising stakes-placed three-year-old filly Rock Me Baby (3f Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire)-Highest Cool (Fr), by Highest Honor), trained by David Payne, remained unbeaten this preparation when trying the longest distance of her brief career, 1400m, beating older mares in the process.   Her earnings have advanced to $166,200.

Two other Kia Ora Stud sale products now racing away from city ranks continue to give their owners much pleasure and were also successful on Saturday.   Gunners Barracks (5g Dolphin Street (Fr)-Cenitfolia, by Bellotto (USA) scored his 11^th victory at Townsville for leading owner Tom Hedley.   The gelding has been rarely out of the money, being placed a further 10 times from 27 career starts.   Tate Modern (7g Peintre Celebre ( USA)-Darmala, by Danehill (USA)), a one-time Moonee Valley winner, has become a fixture on the Victorian picnic circuit and scored his fourth such win at Healesville.
