Kia Ora-bred Filly Returns With Impressive Display Monday, 1st December 2008
Last season’s smart two-year-old
Rock Me Baby (3f Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire)-Highest Cool (Fr), by Highest Honor) returned from a long break and showed she’d lost none of her class with a superb victory in the Riverview Hotel Handicap (1150m) at Randwick on Saturday 29 November.
During her four starts as a two-year-old, Rock Be Baby competed against the likes of generational leaders Amelia’s Dream, Portillo and Stripper.
Rock Me Baby was first-up since her last start in the G3 Sweet Embrace Stakes
back in March 2008 after trainer David Payne elected to give her an extended spell to allow her to fully mature.
“She needed the time but I think we’ve seen the benefit of that today,” David Payne was reported as saying after the win.
“Class prevails, she’s a very good filly,” he said. “There is still improvement in her.”
Stakes-placed Rock Me Baby was bred by Kia Ora Stud and purchased by David Payne for $260,000 at the 2007 Sydney Easter Yearling Sale.
Her two-year-old full brother is in training with Phillip Stokes in
Adelaide and she has a yearling half-sister by Galileo (Ire).
