One To Watch – Shediyama

A late-season debut winner in France on 13 November, the two-year-old filly Shediyama (Red Ransom-Shemaka, by Nishapour) has close ties to a growing Kia Ora Stud family.

The Aga Khan bred and owned filly, who won over 1800m, is out of a half-sister to Kia Ora Stud broodmare Shashzaya (Ire) (by Ashkalani (Ire)).

Shemaka, winner of the G1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks), has already bred three stakeswinners including this year’s Group winner Shemima.  

Kia Ora Stud has retained two daughters of Shashzaya: Shashi (by Singspiel (Ire)) and Davala (by Dalakhani). The mare has a two-year-old colt by Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire) named Rahula, which will go into training with Mick Price later this season, a yearling colt by Galileo (Ire) and is due to foal to Testa Rossa.

It is an outstanding middle distance family which in the ‘80s also produced the English and Irish Derby winner Shahrastani.
