Arms Wide Open maintained her unbeaten first-up record when coming from off the pace to win the three-year-old fillies’ event over 1200m.
Bred by Kia Ora client Michael Ryan, Arms Wide Open
(Encosta de Lago-Embraceable
You (NZ), by Rodrigo de Triano (
USA)) was bought for $725,000 by BBA Ireland’s Adrian Nicoll at Sydney Easter 2007. Arms Wide Open is trained by David Hayes for a partnership which includes prominent owners Tim Hughes, Michael Sullivan, Lord Sam Vestey, Keith Biggs and Rod Russell and has now three of her 10 races
She is the third foal of stakes-placed Embraceable You (NZ) who is a half-sister to G1 Epsom Handicap winner Allez Suez. Embraceable You (NZ) is represented by a Galileo (Ire) colt in the forthcoming Sydney Easter Yearling Sale and produced a colt by Encosta de Lago in 2008.
Also resuming after being placed in Adelaide in the spring, two-year-old filly
Rose Darmore
(More Than Ready (USA)-Darmala, by
Danehill (Ire)) came from last in running to finish third behind boom filly Rostova in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude (fillies division).
Rose Darmore was a $180,000 purchase by trainer Leon Macdonald from the Kia Ora Stud draft in Session 2 of the 2008 Sydney Easter Yearling Sale.
She is the second stakes performer produced by Darmala, herself a stakes-placed member of the same family as impressive recent winner Essaouira.
Playwright
(4g Fantastic Light (USA)-Amonistar (USA), by Theatrical), who was in such great form this time last year, caught the eye with a bold finish for a close fourth in the Listed event over 1100m, his first race for four months.
On that effort, this winner of $305,175 could have another profitable autumn ahead.
